The way you can buy alcohol in the Shire of Broome is changing. As of 25th March 2020, the Takeaway Alcohol Management System (TAMS) will be in place. TAMS is a scanning technology system that implements a daily alcohol purchase limit. The scanners use legal personal identification to allow licensees to register how much an individual has purchased on any one day, across all takeaway liquor outlets within the Shire of Broome.
Packaged liquor may only be sold or supplied in the following quantities per day:
BEER
Light (2.7% or less) = any quantity
Mid-Strength (2.8-3.5%) = maximum 2 cartons of 30 cans/bottles
Full-strength (3.5-7%) = maximum 1 carton of 30 cans/bottles
Extra-Strength (7% or above) = maximum 12 cans/bottles
CIDER & READY TO DRINK (RTD) BEVERAGES
Mid-Strength (2.8-3.5%) = maximum 2 cartons of 30 cans/bottles
Full-strength (3.5-7%) = maximum 1 carton of 30 cans/bottles
Extra-Strength (7% or above) = maximum 12 cans/bottles
WINE
Standard = maximum 6 x 750mL bottles
Fortified = maximum 1 x 750mL bottle
SPIRITS
Maximum 1 x 750mL bottle
Packaged liquor may only be sold or supplied in the following combinations:
2 mid-strength beer cartons
OR
1 full-strength beer carton + 3 bottles of wine
1 full-strength + 1 mid-strength beer carton
OR
1 bottle of spirits + 3 bottles of wine
1 mid-strength beer carton + 6 bottles of wine
OR
1 bottle of spirits + 1 full or mid-strength carton
To purchase liquor you must produce one of the following acceptable current photo identification (ID):
• Australian Driver’s Licence with photography
• Passport
• Australian Proof of Age card
If you do not have any of these forms of ID, you will not be able to purchase alcohol.
